The ending of Avengers: Infinity War is taking a toll on every fan right now but Zoe Saldana (Gamora) may have provided a bit of hope for what is to come in Avengers 4.
It goes without saying that what follows are major spoilers. If you have been unable to take time out for a theatrical screening, it would be best to turn away and never look back.
Speaking with E! News in a recent interview, the actress was asked about her filming experience in Avengers: Infinity War. She accidentally, or perhaps purposely, pointed out that it felt more like working on one extended project instead of two different installments. This is because the cast knew in advance that they would be returning later for Avengers 4.
“At least for me, it felt like a [to be continued],” revealed Saldana. “Because I knew that we will have to all come back, at some point this fall, and finish up the fourth installment of Avengers…It felt like see you later, not like a formal goodbye.”
It was finally revealed this weekend that the only way to obtain the Soul Stone is to sacrifice someone they dearly love — a soul for a soul. Thanos, bent on completing his mission to annihilate half of all life in the universe, threw Gamora off a cliff for the Infinity Stone. Hence, it was also revealed that the Mad Titan was very attached to his adopted daughter, even if she was unaware of it.
Saldana confirming her return for Avengers 4 means that fans can start theorizing on the possibility of time travel once again. There were a number of other characters that perished as well at the hands of Thanos. It can be said that if Gamora is destined to return, the others will as well — or at least some of them.
Not to mention that there is also Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2020) in the works for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is no way that director James Gunn will be bringing out the third installment with three of the original members (Gamora, Drax, Groot) missing in action.
Avengers: Infinity War is now running in theaters worldwide and will open in China on May 11. The untitled sequel, presently dubbed Avengers 4, is slated to premiere on May 3, 2019.
