The untitled sequel, presently dubbed Avengers 4, actually has a working title that is being intentionally hidden away from the public and will not be revealed for the time being because it contains major spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.
In fact, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have even mentioned that the much-anticipated title gives away the events set to take place in the upcoming installment as well. Hence, the reason for secrecy.
However, the ever-promising grapevine of Hollywood may have managed to uncover the hidden title. Take note that what follows not only contain major spoilers for those who have yet to watch Avengers: Infinity War, but also needs to be taken with a good amount of salt.
According to a new report from CBN this week, a source close to the “family” has confirmed the title to be Avengers: Endgame.
If the claim is legitimate, a lot of possibilities have just opened up for what to expect from Avengers 4. The “endgame” could be a reference for what Thanos plans to do next since he now possess all of the Infinity Stones — complete annihilation of our planet. However, it could also be linked to the Avengers themselves.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange used the Time Stone to see into the future and ascertain that there is only one scenario where the “good guys” come out winning. This vision is never clarified for the audience but when Thanos is about to kill Iron Man, Doctor Strange gives up the Time Stone by saying “we’re in the endgame now.”
Hence, he was not just saving Iron Man from certain death but making sure that events pile up in exactly the way they need to be for victory. Perhaps the same vision where the Avengers are victorious requires Thanos to have all of the Infinity Stones.
This is all pure speculation at this point but still something for fans to ponder over until more details arrive.
Avengers: Infinity War was released in theaters worldwide last night. Avengers 4, on the other hand, is scheduled for May 3, 2019.
