PlayStation 4 Best-Selling Console For The Month March, Console Sales Down Compared To March 2017

PlayStation 4 has been dominating the console market since this console generation began, however, Nintendo Switch has been giving a tough time to both PS4 and Xbox One since its launch but, for the month of March Sony’s PlayStation 4 took the lead back and became the best-selling console for the month of March.

This is according to NPD Group, who published a report detailing the best-selling hardware and games for the month of March.

While PlayStation 4 is the best-selling console for the month of March but, the figures were low compared to March 2017, however, console accessories sales grew significantly.

Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One achieved accessories sales growth of more than 40 percent in both the month of March as well as year to date 2018. The headsets/headphones segment is driving accessories growth across both platforms, likely driven by the increase in popularity of multiplayer games such as Fortnite from Epic Games.

In related news, Sea Of Thieves has become the best-selling game in the history of Rare.

According to NPD Group, Sea Of Thieves sold through the first month of its launch faster than any Rare title since the tracking began in 1995. However, ea of Thieves stands at number 8 among the best-selling games of 2018.

Speaking of the consoles, according to Collin Moore, the PlayStation 5 and next Xbox from Sony and Microsoft might not see full hardware upgrades like the previous generations.

He added that Sony and Microsoft might follow a formula followed by Apple for its cellphones.

With Sony and Microsoft expanding the line with PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, we might just see continual evolution in the line rather than completely new boxes and architecture. We can see both follow a similar formula that Apple has with cell phones.
