If you were first introduced to the Witcher series by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt rather than playing through the entire series, then now is the perfect opportunity for you to get a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition from Good Old Games to see how it all began.
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is an updated re-release of the original Witcher game, first released by CD Projekt RED in 2007. The game tells the story of Geralt of Rivia, an amnesiac monster hunter known as a witcher, who must investigate the suspicious dealings of the Cult of the Eternal Fire in the city of Vizima in order to retrieve the potions used to create Witchers.
Along the way, Geralt must attempt to keep himself neutral in the conflict between the Cult of the Eternal Fire, and the elf and dwarf rebel group known as the Scoia’tael. The game, in addition to a deep story full of surprises, also has a wide variety of creative monsters to fight, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
You can pick up a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition by downloading CD Projekt RED’s Gwent card game (which takes place in the Witcher universe) and then subscribing to the GOG newsletter (though you can unsubscribe at any time) before installing the game yourself. While it does have a few technical problems (be sure to keep clearing out your autosaves to avoid crashes) and its graphics aren’t the best, the game is still a lot of fun.
In addition to the free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, GOG is also offering The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, at a discount. Witcher 2 is available for $3, while Wild Hunt is available for $20.
So, if you’re looking for three fantasy RPGs that will keep you occupied for several dozen hours apiece, head on over to GOG.com and pick them all up!
