Call of Duty Black Ops 4 multiplayer might end up being very familiar to people that have played Blizzard Entertainment’s team shooter Overwatch. A Twitter user has apparently leaked to Call of Duty news outlet CharlieINTEL that the game plays very similarly to Blizzard’s smash hit, but is it actually true?
While still focused somewhat around classes recently, Call of Duty has at least remained somewhat innovative in its multiplayer, helped along by three different studios working on it. However, considering that the multiplayer in Black Ops 3 was very Overwatch-like, we might have Treyarch to blame for the copying more than anyone else.
Black Ops 3 multiplayer had players take on a number of different characters who often had their own various roles in a similar manner to Overwatch, coming with different weapons and gear and even various “super” moves that they could perform.
If Black Ops 4 multiplayer ends up doing something similar, it’s possible that it will go full-on Overwatch, with a number of different characters being divided into different roles like attack, defense, and support in a similar manner to Overwatch, even containing robots.
THis, combined with various rumors that Black Ops 4 wouldn’t have a single player mode, and instead would be an entirely multiplayer-focused game, seems to lend credence to the rumor. Various playtesters have outright said that it feels less like a Call of Duty game and more like Call of Duty: Overwatch or Call of Duty Lawbreakers, referring to the Boss Key team shooter that came out a while ago and failed epically.
Call of Duty Black Ops is one of the more favored series of Call of Duty games, with a part of its draw being the large amount of cool tech that pops up in the story mode, but without a story mode and with it just being multiplayer, there’s no telling what all the Black Ops 4 multiplayer might involve.
