It was already speculated that Cable (Josh Brolin) would receive more movies down the line. The time-travelling mutant is currently pegged to make his debut in Deadpool 2 next month. The actor has confirmed now that his character will appear in at least three more projects in the foreseeable future.
Speaking with Empire Magazine in a recent interview, Brolin revealed that the storyline of Cable was always planned to be spanned across multiple movies.
“We think about it in four movie terms,” said Brolin. “We tried to think of Cable as a full arc, not just in this movie, but in the trajectory of four films. That made it a lot more fun for me.”
This means that Cable will not only appear in more X-Men spinoff adaptations but also the upcoming core X-Men installments as well. His part in the X-Force movie is certain for one. While the possibility of seeing the character in X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) is a bit slim, the next sequel for the “merc with a mouth” will definitely see Cable return as well.
Brolin is also playing Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, scheduled to release next week. The same actor playing two major characters may prove interesting if and when Disney manages to acquire 20th Century Fox. However, Brolin added that he was fully aware of the matter. He does not “like the idea of a franchise” and is what made him play both Thanos and Cable.
