Intel made the jump to 6 Core CPUs with its 8th gen Coffee Lake CPUs and recently we reported that the i7-8700K generational successor will feature 8 cores and 16 threads, however, it seems that the company is preparing to introduce 8 Core 16 threads CPU to its 8th gen Intel Coffee Lake-S CPU series.
As reported by Reddit user dayman56, Intel has referenced 8 Core Coffee Lake-S CPUs with integrated GPUs in its technical documentation. Not only that, according to the redditor, there are three references to 8 Core Intel Coffee Lake-S CPUs in the technical documentation.
The technical documentation mentions the Coffee Lake S8+2 CPUs and according to Intel’s format, the 8 represents the number of cores which hints that Intel is preparing to launch 8 Core processor in its 8th gen Cofee Lake-S series.
However, this might not be the part of the 8th gen CPU refreshes as recently Intel revealed them and there was no CPU in the revealed list to feature 8 cores and 16 threads.
Along with the refreshes, Intel has also revealed Core i9 8950HK leading the H-Series. The Intel Core i9-8950HK has a base clock speed of 2.9GHz and the boost clock is 4.6GHz.
However, the boost clock for Intel Core i9-8950HK can go up to 4.8GHz thanks to Thermal Velocity Boost or TVB but, to reach this level of boost clock a certain criteria is to be met.
Speaking of the 8th Gen Cofee Lake refreshes, Intel has revealed that it has completely redesigned its Cascade Lake and Coffee Lake chips to counter Spectre and Meltdown security exploits.
Furthermore, Intel has revealed that it won’t be patching out Spectre and Meltdown exploits in some of its chips. Intel has stopped the microcode production for a total of 10 product families covering more than 200 processor models.
