Dragon Quest 11 launches on PC and PlayStation 4 this September with its Nintendo Switch edition coming sometime after its release. As more information keep swarming in about the game, we learn that its PC port won’t be a straight one and will include more features, just like Square Enix’s latest port, Final Fantasy 15.
Square Enix has become a trademark publisher when it comes to PC ports after the release of Final Fantasy 15, even though Nier Automata sadly didn’t have the same fate. Dragon Quest 11 will get its rightful PC port and as expected it won’t be a straight Playstation 4 port as well. According to assistant Producer Hikari Kubota during a talk with USGamer, Dragon Quest 11 will be nowhere close to Nier Automata, when it comes to the development and porting:
We’re in close contact with one another on a daily basis, and so everything that the Nier experienced has been shared with our team. I’ve been informed of the struggles that Nier had with deploying some of the updates. Right now we are aware of certain points that we should look for when we do release Dragon Quest XI for Steam.
Coming to the important stuff, Kubota revealed that Dragon Quest 11 on PC won’t be a straight port, as we mentioned before, and will include more features and mods that won’t be present on the console. Also, the game’s native 4K resolution has been confirmed giving us another reason be impatient about its release.
As for its Nintendo Switch version, Kubota said that it will be a long time before we actually see it get released. This version is in development as we speak so we should expect a 2019 release if that’s true:
It’s true that the Nintendo Switch version is under development at this moment in time. Specifically with regards to the development, this game was developed on the Unreal Engine, but the version for Unreal Engine needs to be updated, I suppose, in order to support Switch. In that sense, the development is still expected to take a very long time. It’s still a long ways out.
Are you excited about Dragon Quest 11 coming to PC and PlayStation 4 this September? Would you rather wait and grab it on Switch when it finally releases?
