Black Adam Script Almost Readied, Production Should Begin in 2019
There are a few positive updates to breathe in for the upcoming standalone Black Adam movie adaptation, right from the person donning the villainous costume.
Speaking with Yahoo! in a recent interview, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed that a script has been submitted for the comic book adaptation. While there are a few changes that still require attention, there is no reason why production cannot begin as soon as next year.
“The script came in, it’s great, we’re working on it,” teased the Rock. “If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, then that feels like a 2019 movie in production.”
The fictional supervillain — occasional anti-hero — was announced back in 2014 to be receiving a standalone adaptation in the DC Extended Universe. However, it was not until last October when writer Adam Sztykiel was brought in to pen the script. It appears that the first draft was submitted earlier this year and Warner Bros. found little problems between the pages.
“Marvel is doing such an incredible job of universe building … and DC is doing a great job finding the footing and tone of their movies,” the Rock further added. . “It’s this phenomenal opportunity for us to nail the tone and make sure he’s badass… Also, we have intrinsic DNA tied to a lot of other properties in DC.”
There have been several rumors that Shazam! will feature a cameo from arch nemesis Black Adam. Shazam! entered production last month and sees the Rock serving as an executive producer. The wrestler-turned-actor could certainly fit his new role in the upcoming movie to give fans a slight teaser of things to come.
Shazam! is set to be released in theaters on April 5, 2019. Black Adam, however, remains without a release date.
