It’s been a long road to get to this point, full of various leaks and hints, but now it’s finally been announced: a Spyro Reignited trilogy is going to be coming to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One this fall, on September 21. Activision made the announcement after numerous screenshots leaked online.
The Spyro games are some of the most distinctive of early platforming and collecting titles, alongside games like Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, and Banjo Kazooie. It stars the eponymous dragon as he overcomes various threats to his world, and many gamers have been wanting a Spyro remaster ever since the Crash Bandicoot remaster.
While Spyro at one point got rebooted into a more dramatic series with a continuing story, the Spyro Reignited trilogy only focuses on the original three games, meaning that players can expect another light-hearted romp through various worlds and areas while fighting enemies and collecting items in order to free the various dragons frozen in ice across each world.
The games got a lot of leaked screenshots before the announcement, showing off how the game’s graphics would look in the new engine. Far from being the version of Spyro that came with the miniatures video game Skylanders, this is the Spyro that we all know and love, the plucky purple dragon and his firefly companion Spark.
While the Spyro Reignited trilogy isn’t being developed by Insomniac Games like the Crash N. Sane trilogy was with Naughty Dog, because Insomniac is currently developing the Spiderman game for Playstation 4, the Skylanders creators “Toys For Bob” will be taking over, and the game looks amazing.
Spyro’s original voice actor, Tom Kenny, will also be reprising his role in the game. The soundtrack will be a remastered version of Stewart Copeland’s original.
Once again, the Spyro Reignited trilogy will be coming to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One on September 21. The game will cost $39.99
