Gamers who are looking forward to Insomniac Games’s Spiderman title can rest easy; in addition to the studio saying that you can unlock Spiderman suits, the game will also feature no microtransactions. While that should be obvious (considering it’s a single-player game), it’s something that needs to be said these days.
Various games that should ostensibly be single-player have had microtransactions in them, such as Middle-earth: Shadow of War. While Monolith Studios has since removed the microtransactions from that game and adjusted it to make up for the grind that would ensue, the game got harsh criticism for putting in microtransactions when the first game didn’t.
Various other high-profile single player games coming out recently also previously had fears that they would include microtransactions, such as God of War, coming out on April 20. While Cory Barlog has since said that the game won’t have microtransactions, there were still worries about Spiderman having them as well.
According to Game Informer and their issue on the game, Spiderman will have a number of different unlockable Spiderman suits, similar to how previous Spiderman games did it. Theses sorts of suits include Spider Punk, Noir, and the wrestling suit that Peter wore when facing Crusher Hogan.
There are at least a dozen different Spiderman suits to unlock, and that’s not even all of them according to creative designer Brian Intihar. However, Spider-Punk, along with two other suits, will be exclusive to pre-orders, so if you want all of them you’ll have to buy the game before its release date.
Along with Spiderman suits that you can unlock, there won’t be any microtransactions for things like crafting materials. Intihar confirmed that the game wouldn’t have microtransactions with an emphatic “Hell no”, so we don’t have to worry about Spiderman mucking things up like Shadow of War did.
