Geralt of Rivia is the man being honored in Soul Calibur 6 releasing this year. In a recent behind the scenes video, we get to find out more about our favorite Witcher in Bandai Namco’s upcoming fighting title regarding his gameplay and his connection to the Soul Calibur universe.
In this Geralt of Rivia behind the scenes showcase video, we get a perfect description of Geralt from CD Projekt RED’s Borys Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz saying that the witcher is a master swordsman, a spinner, roller, an acrobat with superhuman strength, speed and reflexes. He’s also a bit of an alchemist with potions, blade oils, and his bombs and also a minor or lesser mage with his witcher signs. That might be the longest yet most accurate description of Geralt we got up until now, something that we’ll get to see in Soul Calibur 6 too.
In the upcoming fighting title, Geralt will have the ability to cast signs again, which was had to be done since they’re some of his signature signs. His blade dancing will also be almost the same as in The Witcher 3, as the developers had to keep his movements true to the original yet make it fitting for a fighting game. As Sebastian Kalemba, head of animation in CD Projekt RED revealed, they had to go back to the drawing board and make sure his movements were precise to fit his confident fighting style.
Moreover, Borys Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz has given some context as to how Geralt of Rivia could fit into Soul Calibur 6’s universe. He says:
Not least because Geralt’s romp into the world of Soulcalibur VI could be considered as an extension of the interdimensional travel he did in The Witcher 3. On one leg, he encountered sandworms on a sand-covered planet, on another, he might well have encountered Mitsurugi and Sophitia. I think we’ve done a really good job, recreating the Witcher fighting styles in Soulcalibur VI.
Most importantly, we wanted to deliver something that would expand both universes in a meaningful way so gamers who are into The Witcher and the fighting community would both be left satisfied. I can’t wait for gamers all around the world to get their hands on the game. It’s going to be great!
Soul Calibur 6 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC somewhere in 2018 by Bandai Namco.
