Harebrained Schemes Just Put Out A Battletech Story Trailer Before Release

The upcoming Battletech video game developed by Harebrained Schemes and published by Paradox Interactive is now just a few weeks away from release, and the developers have published a new Battletech story trailer to show the backstory of the game and what players are in for when the game releases.

Battletech, which was crowdfunded on Kickstarter, takes place in the eponymous Battletech universe, a science fiction setting where humanity has spread out across thousands of different planets, forming different star nations in what is known as the Inner Sphere while the more numerous Clans possess the outer worlds.

Players take on the role of the commander of a mercenary company, who will be participating in an event known as the Succession Wars, where various noble houses fight for control of the Inner Sphere. Your group of four MechWarriors are owners of an ever-shrinking number of Battlemechs, as the fighting has dragged on for so long that humanity no longer knows how to make them.

This particular Battletech story trailer tells the tale of a deposed queen of the Aarano noble family, who has contracted the player’s group to help her reclaim her throne from the tyrant that has taken over her domain. Whether the player fights for the cause of restoring the rightful ruler, or fights for the money she gives you, remains up to the player.

In addition to the story of the game, players will also be in charge of customizing their company’s mechs, such as their chassis and weapons. Along with that, players can specialize each pilot to a certain role through various skill trees.

There hasn’t been a Battletech game since 2013 back when MechWarrior Online released, though that was an online free-to-play turn based strategy game that was exclusively multiplayer. Hopefully when it releases on April 24 exclusively for the PC, Linux, and Mac OS, the game will live up to the hype of the Battletech story trailer.
