Intel 8 Core Coffee Lake-S CPU Leaked, Intel To Introduce A New Socket?

Intel’s portfolio of CPUs is quite diverse even though AMD Ryzen has been giving Intel a tough time in terms of performance, core and thread counts and seems like Intel is preparing to counter AMD Ryzen with its 8 Core Coffee Lake-S CPU which has leaked online.

The leaked 8 Core Coffee Lake-S CPU popped up at 3DMark database, however, this is just a speculation that it is a Coffee Lake CPU since Intel plans to roll out Coffee Lake refreshes in the second half of 2018. Also, there is a chance that this 8 Core CPU could be released as part of 9th gen Intel Core series.

According to the leak, the 8 Core Coffee Lake-S processor has a base clock of 2.20 GHz and was tested on Intel Corporation CoffeeLake S82 UDIMM RVP.

Now here is the thing, currently, no released Coffee Lake-S CPU has this much core count as the maximum featured are 6 cores which might raise the possibility that Intel will introduce this 8 Core Coffee Lake-S CPU along with a new socket.

However, given the leak mentions that the testing was done on CoffeeLake S82 UDIMM RVP, it is safe to assume that it will support the already existing Intel CPU socket.

In related news, Intel has revealed that it has redesigned its upcoming Cascade Lake and Coffee Lake chips to counter Spectre and Meltdown security exploits.

According to Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, with the redesign, the chips will be protected against the Spectre variant 2 and Meltdown variant 3 exploit but for Spectre Variant 1, software patches are still required.

Speaking of exploits, CTS Labs recently reported 13 security exploits for AMD to which virtually all AMD CPUs are vulnerable to and AMD has announced that it will be rolling out fixes in coming weeks.

What do you think of the 8 Core Coffee Lake-S CPU? Will Intel introduce a new socket to its 8 Core CPU? Let us know in the comments.
