No Fortnite Cross Play is Sony’s Fault: Microsoft
Fortnite is the most popular and successful game these days. Whether you have a PlayStation, Xbox One, PC, iOS or an Android, you might know that Epic Games (developers of Fortnite) recently announced that the game is headed to mobile devices and cross-platform play is coming.
Yes, the game is almost expanding to every single platform… and with that comes the ability to crossplay. According to Epic Games, players will soon be able to play against each other (regardless of platform) with Fortnite cross play between Xbox One and PS4 being the sole exception.
As annoying as it may seem, a Microsoft spokesperson has blamed Sony for the lack of crossplay between Xbox One and PS4. Speaking with Kotaku, the spokesperson said that for any queries related to Fortnite crossplay between Xbox One and PS4 should be taken to Epic Games or Sony:
We’ve worked closely with Nintendo to allow cross-network play between Xbox One and Switch and our offer to do the same with Playstation players still holds. For any other questions regarding Fortnite cross-network play between Xbox and PlayStation, please reach out to Epic or Sony directly.
This was confirmed soon after Microsoft’s Phil Spencer replied to a Tweet asking when players would be able to play the game across Xbox One and PS4:

Last year, Epic Games accidentally enabled crossplay between the two consoles but disabled it after a while saying that it was a ‘configuration issue’. Even then, Spencer said that he would have liked Epic to leave it like that. This obviously suggests that Microsoft is all in and it is Sony who is hesitant.
Sony and Microsoft are direct competitors in the gaming console business and operate entirely different in their ecosystems. Microsoft has Xbox Live and Sony has the PlayStation Network which has their own community but with similar features and services.
If you play Fortnite and want to try it on Apple devices and play across with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users, the game is now accepting sign-ups that you can fill and get enrolled.
