Nicolas Cage Finally Given the Chance to Play Superman, but in Teen Titans Go!
The dreams — memes — are finally coming true for Nicolas Cage. The actor, once famously set to play Superman in a cancelled project more than two decades back, will now be given the same opportunity again, albeit as an animated character in the upcoming Teen Titans Go! movie.
Speaking with USA Today this week, executive producer Sam Register confirmed the casting by stating that voice actors for each superhero were finalized with great care.
“Every superhero in the DC Universe has an impact on the fans,” Register said, “so we felt a great responsibility to find a voice for each character that would not only suit the role, but the playful tone of the Titans, and we’re thrilled with our cameo cast.”
Superman Lives (previously titled Superman Reborn) was a superhero movie intended for production during the 1990s. However, multiple delays owning to script and budget issues forced director Tim Burton to jump ship for other awaiting projects. It was not until years later that director Bryan Singer stepped forward with Superman Returns (2006) but without the inclusion of Cage. The kryptonian went through another reboot with Man of Steel (2013) later on and Henry Cavill, for the time being, looks poised to continue wearing the red cape for years to come.
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies will be the second theatrical release based on a Warner Bros. animated series in more than two decades. The last one to arrive was Mask of the Phantasm (1993) that was based on the Batman: The Animated Series. The animated feature has been directed by Aaron Horvath, also the screenwriter, and will open in theaters on July 27, 2018.
The official synopsis can be browsed below:

But when the group is radically misdirected by a seriously super villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry.
