Isn’t it amazing how marketing works in mysterious ways? Sometimes getting to see developers talk about their projects is an even more powerful way to hype the game than a hundred of trailers. This time Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom gets a behind the scenes video, explaining how its stunning graphics and lighting were created.
Art Director Nobuyuki Yanai is the one taking part in the particular video, letting us know how Level-5 has managed to fit 2D characters and other graphics assets into a massive 3D world.
According to him, this was a challenge that he was willing to take upon and see what he could do with the power of the PlayStation 4. To explain himself, he gave an example using the city of Broadleaf, which looks like it is made out of gold but its walls are actually out of brass.
Yanai continued by explaining how the lighting and shadow effects work in Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom and he revealed that this time the lighting is programmed instead of hand drawn as it was in its predecessor. Make sure to crank up your graphics settings to the maximum – if your system can take the hit – and enjoy the game to its fullest.
To close up, Yanai gave a heartfelt message to all fans out there letting them know that this game is the product of their love for the Ni No Kuni universe. See what he did there? We are pretty sold by the following statement:
The game is quite fascinating, in that it offers an expansive 2D animated world for you to explore in 3D. We’ve really put our hearts and souls into every detail, so I’m hoping everyone will enjoy the world of Ni No Kuni to its fullest.
Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom is releasing on PlayStation 4 and PC on March 23rd and its trophy list has just been revealed. In the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom.
