Call of Duty Black Ops 4 might be getting a Call of Duty Battle Royale mode when it releases, as Activision, the game’s publisher, has said that they are very aware of how popular the Battle Royale game mode has become. While we don’t know anything yet, it’s an intriguing prospect.
Battle Royale games only became truly popular within the last few years, such as the online game “The Culling. However, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the wildly popular battle royale game that took Steam by storm over the past year, has led to a renewed interest in the genre.
While Epic Games’s Fortnite has also gotten a wildly popular Battle Royale mode, altogether the renewed interest in it to begin with has led to implications of a Call of Duty Battle Royale game mode from Activision.
A Battle Royale multiplayer mode in Call of Duty might end up being a fairly popular addition, especially considering how popular PUBG is. While the finer kinks might have to be worked out (such as how players will start, what will keep them moving inward instead of camping, things like that), if done well Activision could have a new Nazi Zombies mode on its hands.
Of course, that also depends on whether or not the Call of Duty Battle Royale mode is done well. If it’s like Fortnite, where it’s fun, constantly being updated, and proves itself to be more fair in the long run, then Call of Duty might attract a lot of interested Battle Royale fans.
However, if it’s like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which is currently losing fans to Fortnite due to a perceived lack of development progress and huge numbers of Asian hackers, then Activision could commit a serious misstep.
Either way, if a Call of Duty Battle Royale mode is in fact coming, hopefully Activision will be able to make it good enough to become a highly popular mode.
