Jesse Eisenberg has not completely ditched the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and is actually fairly interested in reprising his chief role as Lex Luthor in the foreseeable future.
The actor played the conniving supervillain in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2017) but the portrayal did not go down fairly well with fans hailing from the original comic books. The movie itself was bombed with poor reviews as well. However, the surrounding negativity has apparently not deterred Eisenberg from jumping ship entirely.
Speaking with Variety in a recent interview, the actor was asked if he would be willing to become Lex Luthor again. Eisenberg responded that he has no details about what is being prepared for the DCEU but the character was one of the most “enjoyable” opportunities in his career.
“I hope so. I mean, I have no idea is the truth. I love playing the character. Probably in terms of movie acting, it’s the most enjoyable character I’ve had the opportunity to play. So I would love to do it again”, Eisenberg said.
Eisenberg and Lex Luthor were assumed to return in Justice League (2017) but that never came to fruition. The character did surface in a post-credits sequence and was revealed to have broken out of Arkham Asylum at some point following the chaotic events from the movie. He met with Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello) on a yacht where they talked about building a league of supervillains.
There is still no word on Man of Steel 2 but the sequel appears unlikely to arrive before 2020. Considering that Lex Luthor has always been the arch nemesis of the kryptonian, Eisenberg may be given another opportunity to shave his head again.
