Jeffrey Dean Morgan Wants to Play Batman in Flashpoint, “Highly Aware of the Character”

When it comes to casting wishlists for Batman in the upcoming Flashpoint adaptation, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is one name that fans have placed at the very top of the pile.

Speaking with Total Film (via GamesRadar) in a recent interview, the actor stated that it would be “a thrill of a lifetime” to don the cape and cowl of the iconic character. He is also apparently familiar with the source materials, which would be tremendously helpful when it comes to playing the part.

“I’m highly aware of the character, I will say that, and it would probably be a thrill of a lifetime to put on the Batsuit,” Morgan said. “And what I know about the Flashpoint Batman is, you know, for me, I think he is not only the darkest of the Batmen, but the coolest. And I love his whole storyline and who he is and the tortured soul of it all.”

If Morgan does get the role of Batman in Flashpoint, it would be his second appearance in the DC Extended Universe. The Walking Dead actor previously did a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2017) as Thomas Wayne. Before that, Morgan was in Watchmen (2009) as the Comedian.

For those unaware, the comic book storyline for Flashpoint sees the Flash travel back in time to save his mother from being murdered. His actions end up creating a new alternate reality where Bruce Wayne, not his parents, were killed in the alleyway that fateful night. Thomas Wayne ends up becoming Batman — far darker and brutal than the original counterpart, without remorse and attuned to killing and torture. Oh, and Martha Wayne ends up becoming the Joker.

Flashpoint was originally slated for a release in theaters on March 16, 2018, before mounting delays ended up wiping the slate with a vague 2020 release date.
