There are high expectations floating for Avengers: Infinity War to smash the box office in the coming months. The culmination of more than a dozen installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has everyone riled up, with Black Panther paving the way in a profound manner. It should also be noted that both The Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) are among the top five highest grossing comic book adaptations in history. Hence, it is only natural for the third installment to join the prestigious ranks as well.
The one important question that remains now is that just how much will Avengers: Infinity War manage to earn in the box office? According to a new report from That Hashtag Show earlier today, projections made by Box Office Pro place the opening weekend numbers in the following way:
- Domestic Opening Weekend: $200 million – $235 million
- Domestic Total Gross: $490 million – $590 million
Take note that this projection covers the domestic screening and not the international market. That being said, it is completely possible for the highly anticipated movie to achieve the biggest opening weekend ever and end up as the highest grossing comic book adaptation in history.
Avengers: Infinity War will open in theaters worldwide on May 4, 2018, and be the first of a two-part series. The untitled sequel, presently dubbed Avengers 4, is slated to premiere on May 3, 2019.
The cast features Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as the Falcon, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Vin Diesel as Groot, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Josh Brolin as Thanos.
