No Nintendo Switch Hardware Update Planned As Nintendo Focuses To Support It Long Term

Nintendo Switch has been very successful and Nintendo intends to support it way past its traditional console cycle and now the company has revealed that it doesn’t plan to update the hybrid console’s hardware.

According to Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the reason why there won’t be a Switch hardware update like the 3DS XL is that the things that can be done on the go with Nintendo Switch.

When you think about what can be done with the Nintendo Switch as a device that can be taken on the go and that every person has in their hands to play, you realize it has many features not available on any other hardware to date.

Nintendo also has a system in place whereby the software developers focus on these hardware features in their development efforts for the continuation of the Nintendo Switch business. Up until now, the hardware life cycle has trended at around five or six years, but it would be very interesting if we could prolong that life cycle, and I think you should be looking forward to that.

He added that Nintendo intends to support Nintendo Switch with new peripherals, a recent example of that is Nintendo Labo.

Speaking of Nintendo Switch, Blizzard Entertainment has potentially teased Diablo 3 for Switch. Blizzard Entertainment took it ot Twitter and posted a short video which showcases a Diablo-themed nightlight being Switched off and on.
