Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remains as one of the finest COD games out there. Even after almost 10 years, fans are hoping for a potential remaster; like the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare received a while back. While neither Activision nor Infinity Ward has confirmed anything, we have a few of reasons to believe that we will seeing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered sometime later down the road.
Expect Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered in 2019
Keeping COD’s 3-year development cycle in mind, Call of Duty 2018 will be from Treyarch Games. A new Call of Duty by Infinity Ward will release sometime in 2019, which is when we expect Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered to launch – something we already saw with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
With that being said, here are our reason why believe Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be bundled with 2019’s COD title:
Effort And Resources
While the remaster had a few hiccups and the inability to purchase the standalone version initially left a bad taste in fans’ mouths, Modern Warfare Remastered was not bad in any sense of the word. Once the aforementioned issues got sorted out, MWR provided a more enjoyable experience as opposed to Infinite Warfare – but I believe that is subjective.
As mentioned earlier, there are still a whole lot of fans that would buy Modern Warfare 2 Remastered in a heartbeat. MW2 was developed using IW Engine 4.0, an improved version of IW Engine 3.0 used by the original MW. Therefore, remastering MW2 should not take a tonne of resources and effort from Infinity Ward or Raven Software.
No Backwards Compatibility Yet
It might come as a surprise but all three Modern Warfare games have yet to become available as Backwards Compatible Titles for Xbox One and Xbox One X. With COD games like COD 2, COD 3, WAW, Black Ops, Black Ops II, and Ghosts already available as BC titles, it seems odd that Activision did not decide to make their most beloved instalments Backwards Compatible.
With the original Modern Warfare already available as a remaster, I believe Activision has plans to remaster MW2 as well or even bundle all three MW games – only time will tell!
10TH Anniversary
2019 marks the 10TH anniversary of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Given the fact that Modern Warfare Remastered launched fairly close to MW’s 10TH anniversary, we can expect Activision celebrating one of their most iconic titles by giving it a remaster treatment. However, as mentioned earlier, nothing has been confirmed as of now.
