Nintendo Switch is Where PS4 Used to Be on the US Sales Charts

Nintendo Switch sales are booming as the console takes down PS4 from the top of the US sales charts this month. According to the latest NPD sales data, Nintendo Switch is the best selling gaming machine in the U.S for the month of January.

The sales data and financial gains show that the console market is booming right now. It must be surprising for the Guru’s who predicted the end of console gaming recently. It looks like consoles are here to stay thanks to the success of PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said:

In dollar sales, the gap between the top-selling platform and the third best-selling was only 3 percent. Nintendo Switch was the month’s best-selling platform in Unit sales, while PlayStation 4 topped dollar sales. Xbox One dollar and unit sales in January 2018 are the highest achieved for the platform in a January month.

Hardware spending in January grew 119 percent compared to last year. Hardware spendings were mainly driven by PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Last month’s dollar sales of $278 million are the highest level achieved since the $323 million sold during the same period back in 2011, 7 years ago.

Close to 1 million consoles were sold which is also the highest tally since 2011.

Nintendo Switch released a year ago and such impressive growth rate is going to encourage devs to further support Nintendo’s latest gaming machine. Many AAA publishers are working on games for Nintendo, publishers who dropped support after the failed Wii U are coming back for Switch; and these sales numbers would further boost their interest in the console.
