Fans of everyone’s favorite little purple dragon might have cause to rejoice, as insider sources have said that a Spyro trilogy remaster is in the works for the Playstation 4. The potential remaster comes hot on the heels of the Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter remakes that came out in 2017.
The Spyro the Dragon trilogy is seen as one of the most notable games in the catalogue of the Playstation. Spyro was so popular that he, along with Crash Bandicoot, got their own figures in the Skylanders franchise, and Spyro is a primary character in the Skylanders cartoon series.
The Spyro trilogy remaster isn’t the Legend of Spyro trilogy, which some younger players might be more familiar with as they rebooted the original franchise into a more plot-driven and dramatic story, rather than the semi-random events plot of the original games. While we don’t know if the Legend of Spyro trilogy will get a remaster, that remains to be seen.
In the meantime, the Spyro trilogy remaster will include the original three games: the original Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage, and Year of the Dragon. The trilogy will be announced for the Playstation 4 and Playstation 4 Pro in March, and will release in the third quarter of 2018. It’s possible that September will be the launch month, as that’s when Spyro’s 20th anniversary is.
The remastering is apparently being done by Vicarious Visions. This is the same studio that handled the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, so if this is the same sort of work that they put into that remaster, then we’ll likely get a remastering of the same sort of quality. Hopefully, however, there won’t be an identical reaction review-wise to the remastering.
Either way, if the rumors turn out to be true and we are getting a Spyro trilogy remaster, the remaster train is going to keep on rolling for a while longer, it seems.
