There is apparently another new X-Men movie in the pipelines, one that has seen 20th Century Fox bring in two long-time veterans of the mutant franchise.
According to a new report from Deadline earlier today, the mysterious project will be directed by Tim Miller and written by Brian Michael Bendis.
Miller is currently working on another installment in the Terminator franchise for sometime next year. The director took on the project after doing a marvelous job in bringing the “merc with a mouth” on the silver screen with Deadpool and was thrilled to do so again for the sequel. Unfortunately, he was forced to leave during pre-production because of creative differences.
Bendis recently decided to take a break from Marvel Comics and work exclusively with DC Comics instead. He is a veteran scribe with a number of accolades to his name. His most notable works include Ultimate Spider-Man, Daredevil, New Avengers, All-New X-Men, Alias, House of M, Jinx, and Secret Invasion.
There is nothing more known about the new X-Men movie at this point except that its working title is “143” for some reason. Could that be a reference to a comic book issue? The most relevant and probable pick in this regard would be the same issue number from the New X-Men series where Wolverine, Cyclops, and Fantomex break into a highly guarded base of operations for the Weapon Plus Project to learn the origin of the Weapon X Project.
Take note that this is not the only X-Men-related project on the table for 20th Century Fox. There is X-Men: Dark Phoenix that will retell the epic tale of the ancient cosmic entity when it open in theaters on November 2, 2018. There is then Gambit, currently stuck in development hell and slated for late 2019, as well as The New Mutants for February 22, 2019.
