In addition to showing off Cable (Josh Brolin) with his impressive techno-organic transformation for the silver screen, the action-packed trailer for Deadpool 2 from last week surprised everyone by teasing a few more faces.
The “merc with a mouth” was briefly shown standing with a group of four characters that make the X-Force in the comic books. There was Domino (Zazie Beetz) standing on one side and an unidentified character (Terry Crews) on the other. Behind them were two more faces in the dark. One of them in particular was wearing a white costume and unique headpiece that made everyone think of Shatterstar from the source materials.
It has now been confirmed that the earlier speculations about Shatterstar appearing in the sequel were indeed on the mark.
Speaking with Inverse in a recent interview, Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) confirmed that the earlier speculations were indeed on the mark. Not only will Shatterstar be appearing in the sequel, but he will be doing so alongside Terry Crews.
“That’s not CGI of Terry Crews, that is Terry Crews,” Kapicic said. “You can see it clearly. You can see behind him, Shatterstar, a really cool thing for people to geek out.”
The X-Force was created by Cable in the comic books to take on the same mission as the X-Men but with a more aggressive, militant, and nastier approach. Shatterstar was one of the founding members, a warrior from another world–Mojoverse–that is governed by the laws of television. He spent most of his life as a fierce gladiator in the arena for the applause of the audience and loves fighting more than anything else. Hence, he was perfect for the band of mutant-mercenaries that Cable decided to form.
Deadpool 2, directed by David Leitch, will open in theaters on May 18, 2018.
