Natalie Portman “Completely Open” to Play Jane Foster in MCU Again

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may have moved on without Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, but she is eagerly interested in making a comeback as one the leading astrophysicists and premiere experts on Asgard in the world–as well as the love interest of Thor.

Speaking with Screen Rant in a recent interview, the actress stated that she is just waiting for an opportunity to present itself before jumping back in.

“I’m completely open to everything, but I have no news about that,” Portman said about her potential return to the superhero genre.

The character of Jane Foster holds great significance in the source materials, even going on to wield the mighty Mjolnir as the new god of thunder in the current timeline of the comic books.

However, as far as the movies in the MCU are concerned, she dropped out after appearing in the first couple of releases. Portman filled the shoes of the good doctor in Thor (2011) and then again in Thor: The Dark World (2013) before missing out on Thor: Ragnarok (2017) on the pretense that the character had no room in the script. The latest installment in the franchise only mentioned her by name to have broken off the relationship with Thor.

While the character of Jane Foster may not appear in Avengers: Infinity War, Thor will be joining forces with the mightiest heroes of Earth to save everyone from a galactic threat of epic proportions. The thunder god has also upgraded his arsenal to wield something new in the movie.

Avengers: Infinity War will open in theaters on May 4, 2018. The untitled sequel, presently dubbed Avengers 4, is slated to premiere on May 3, 2019.
