The first teaser trailer has finally rolled out for Venom, the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff that will see Tom Hardy return to the superhero genre after donning the mask of Bane in the Dark Knight trilogy.
The Academy Award nominated actor will star as Eddie Brock, a disgraced journalist that falls hard in life before ending up as a host for the alien Symbiote.
The teaser trailer, unfortunately, does not show him transforming into the snarling wall-crawler. It does the job, though, by teasing his impending transformation inside a closely monitored medical facility.
Venom has been directed by Ruben Fleischer and primarily draws inspiration from two source materials: Lethal Protector (1993) and Planet of the Symbiotes (1995). The character was initially introduced as a supervillain before walking the path of an anti-hero in recent times.
The movie adaptation wrapped up production just last week. Sony Pictures had promised then that it would soon be dropping a trailer, leading fans to naturally expect a treat during the Super Bowl on the weekend. We can only hope that the full trainer is also just around the corner.
Venom is scheduled to premiere on October 5, 2018. It is only one of several Spider-Man spinoffs in the works. The others include a movie dedicated to Silver & Black that is currently slated for February 2019 and a live-action adaptation of Morbius, the Living Vampire, that is currently without a release date.
