Black Panther, having gone past all other superhero movies in terms of pre-sales last month, has now achieved another advance ticket sales record.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter earlier today, the highly anticipated movie has surpassed all movies ever released during the first quarter in the history of online ticket retailer Fandango.
The new advance ticket sales record means that Black Panther jumped ahead of prior stellar releases such as The Hunger Games (2012) and Beauty and the Beast (2017) to sit at the top of the ladder.
The run is yet to be over because the movie is looking to become the largest advance ticket seller for Fandango. It is currently on pace to beat Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) for yet another advance ticket sales record.
Black Panther has so far been received with wide open arms by critics, boasting a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score with the first batch of early reviews. The early reactions from last week were equally stellar as well.
Black Panther has been directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger as part of an impressive cast that is being hailed for their magnificent performances on-screen.
Black Panther is set two years after the events of Captain America: Civil War, in which a brainwashed Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, was framed for the assassination of T’Chaka, the ruler of the African nation of Wakanda. The kingdom is now in political turmoil and on the brink of war.
Black Panther will open in theaters on February 16 and is expected to debut close to $150 million in the domestic box office. It will be the last release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before the highly anticipated arrival of Avengers: Infinity War on May 4.
