It has been officially confirmed that Lucasfilm is currently developing multiple Star Wars TV Shows for the upcoming streaming service of Disney. This includes the live-action adaptation that was only recently confirmed after being rumored to be in the pipelines for years, at least one animated adaptation, and possibly more.
While addressing investors (via The Hollywood Reporter) this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that there are “a few” Star Wars TV Shows in the works and it will soon be revealing at least one of them.
“We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct to consumer app. We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the interties that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that, I think you’ll find the level of talent … on the television front will be rather significant as well.”
The live-action adaptation is reportedly assumed to be called Star Wars: Underworld and is slated to drop next year to coincide with the release of the new streaming service for Disney. It is unlikely that all of the new television shows will arrive in the same time frame but it is good to know that the is a lot of content being developed for the upcoming platform.
The confirmation about new Star Wars TV Shows in development arrives on the back of Lucasfilm signing David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, co-creators of the critically acclaimed Game of Thrones television series, for a new Star Wars movie series.
