James Gunn has directed two stellar movies in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and is currently helming the third installment. His critically acclaimed adaptation of the unusual team of superheroes for the silver screen has done wonders for the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years. This feat has been hailed by many, including Microsoft.
In recognition and appreciation of his cinematic work, the company sent over a custom Xbox One console to Gunn this week. The director did not wait long to take to Instagram and show off the surprising gift to his fans and followers.
“Check out this Baby Groot @xbox that @microsoft just gave me!! #groot #marvel #xbox #gaming #gotg,” the director exclaimed.
It appears to be a standard Xbox One model with 500GB storage capacity that has been scuffed up on purpose for a dusty look. The thing that makes this custom Xbox One console an item for collectors is the giant Baby Groot figurine standing on top of the system. The character is next to the bomb that was used in the second follow-up in Guardians of the Galaxy and will probably end up blowing everyone up with his adorable self.
It does not seem like Microsoft remembered to bundle up some games as well. Gunn definitely needs to pick up Monster Hunter: World as soon as possible but it is likely that he won’t have much time to explore the vast world. In that light, Overwatch seems to be a better choice.
The third installment for Guardians of the Galaxy will open in theaters somewhere in 2020. However, fans will not have to wait that long to see the superheroes save the galaxy once again. They will be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018, and again in the untitled sequel, presently dubbed Avengers 4, on May 3, 2019.
