Ra’s al Ghul, the long-time adversary standing against Batman, will possibly be starring as another supervillain in the upcoming live-action Titans television series.
According to a new report from That Hashtag Show earlier today, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are currently casting for a new character. While the accompanying description of the role does not mention him by name, it does certainly fit how Ra’s al Ghul has been depicted over the years.
Male, 40s-50s, Middle Eastern, Latin, or East Indian. Seeking a young Richard Attenborough type. Fearless, manipulative, with unparalleled intelligence. Recurring guest star, seeking recognizable faces only.
Ra’s al Ghul has survived for centuries by bathing in the alchemy waters of the Lazarus pits. He leads the ancient order known as the League of Assassins and considers Batman as a worthy replacement for when he finally dies. However, Batman has no interest to be an immortal caretaker of brainwashed assassins. While Ra’s al Ghul swore vengeance on the Dark Knight for refusing his offer, he still respects the Batman for what he does.
Titans, based on the classic Teen Titans comic books, was first announced to be in development back in 2014. The cast confirmed so far includes Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Teagan Croft as Raven, Brenton Thwaites as Robin, and Anna Diop as Starfire. The live-action adaptation will also feature Alan Ritchson as Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dove.
Titans will debut early next year on the upcoming digital streaming service from DC Entertainment. It is not the only live-action adaptation on the table. Metropolis was recently announced and will revolve around Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. There are also a couple of animated series in the mix, based on Harley Quinn and Young Justice.
