Bungie Says That Destiny 2 Expansion 2 Will Be Launching In May Along With Season 3

Bungie says that Destiny 2 Expansion 2 will be launching in May alongside Season 3 in a similar manner to Curse of Osiris launching alongside Season 2.

Christopher Barrett of Bungie has gone on the record on Twitter to say that Destiny 2 Expansion 2 (which is apparently entitled “Gods of Mars”) will be releasing this may, alongside the game’s “Season 3” start. There’s no telling what the expansion is, however, but we’ll likely find out more in the coming months.

The first Destiny 2 expansion, “Curse of Osiris”, got a lot of flak from many Destiny 2 players who were expecting more from the expansion, which focused around the Warlock Osiris who had often been mentioned in the game’s lore. With only a handful of missions (and two of them being re-used for Strikes), and the unrepeatable Infinite Forest, players are likely going to be expecting Expansion 2 to be a lot better.

Previous leaks for Destiny 2 Expansion 2 said that players would be traveling to a new region of Mars called the Frigid Vale, as the ancient Warmind Charlemagne has reawoken and has imprisoned our old friend Rasputin the Earth Warmind within a vault. Players must try to free Rasputin with the help of another long-lost Guardian: Ana Bray.

While we don’t know if this is actually correct, it’s probably likely considering that we’ve seen a lot of stuff about Mars pop up across the series, and how Rasputin and Charlemagne have both been mentioned to be two of the main surviving Warminds. Prior to Destiny 2’s release, there was even an area on mars called “Charlemagne’s Vault”, where players could earn Thorn.

While that was obviously cut from the first Destiny game, Charlemagne being used in an expansion at least means that he’ll be getting some screentime.

With Bungie now being very dedicated to fixing Destiny 2’s shaky public image, hopefully Destiny 2 Expansion 2 will be a good step up in their efforts, and hopefully Destiny 2 can follow the same path as the original Destiny.
