Burnout developer team, Criterion Games is working on a new title and, interestingly, it’s not a racing one. Apparently, the studio has taken some time from their effort to polish EA’s games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 to create something of their own. As revealed by a job opening announced by the studio, they are currently working on an action-adventure AAA title with an emphasis on melee combat.

The aforementioned job opening is about the position of the Lead Combat Designer of their project, one that will have to be responsible for working with creative leadership and other discipline leads to plan, prototype and build combat systems. Criterion states:

We are looking for a creative and passionate person to take the role of combat designer at Criterion. Working collaboratively with other designers, engineers and almost all other disciplines you will lead the design of combat within a AAA title.

As the description of the job opening indicates, such person must have knowledge on “all types of combat in games but in particularly melee combat”, “Action and Action Adventure games”, “Physics and physicality in games” as well as have “a desire and inherent need to work with others to achieve great things, develop new ideas and truly innovate”.

For those who think that have what it takes to be the next Lead Combat Designer of Criterion Games, you should apply and test your luck with Burnout’s developing team. For us fans though, it’s time to put down all the details.

As it seems, Criterion Games new title is an action-adventure new IP, obviously fighting related, based on melee combat. Could the studio be working on a fighting-themed title instead? This could be the case, even though fighting games have seen better days in the past and the studio apparently knows that. However, if the job opening is to be believed then Criterion is about to hit the industry with a new action game that will let you punch the life out of, well, things.

Always looking for a deep story, empathetic characters, and a great soundtrack in video games. Hardcore game hoarder and a strong believer that one day Xbox will win the console war.
