The first official trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp was released earlier today, smacking together several teasers to the setting, possible plot threads, secrets, and important mentionables. It has put internet sleuths right to work on listing a trailer breakdown and the following is what there is to know about.
The musical Easter egg
The main guitar riff used in the score for the trailer is actually from “Ants Invasion” by Adam and the Ants, an English rock band that was active during the late 1970s and early 1980s. It was specifically chosen by director Peyton Reed as a nod to the superhero.
The confirmation of the timeline
There is a quick flashback to the airport battle where Ant-Man battled against Iron Man and his allies. This is basically the trailer confirming that the sequel will take place right after the events in Captain America: Civil War, and as learned later, before Avengers: Infinity War.
The consequences of standing up to the government
Scott Lang started off as a master thief in the first movie before becoming Ant-Man for the greater good. Unfortunately, his decision to side with Captain America meant going against the wishes of the government and that comes with consequences.
Lang can be seen wearing an ankle monitor in the trailer as he serves his sentence under house-arrest. He already broke his way out of a top-secret international prison once, and will probably have to manage the same feat again.
The handy portable office
Dr. Hank Pym has clearly been spending time to add a few more uses to his–hopefully–patented shrinking technology. There is one scene where he flicks a switch to shrink an entire skyscraper to the size of a suitcase. It even comes with a handle and wheels for convenience. That gives a whole new meaning to owning a portable office.
The case of the missing-expanding van
While being involved in a high-speed chase on the busy highways, our superheroes flick a switch to shrink their van down to the size of a miniature toy. They could have easily escaped in that manner, except for the awesome opportunity to expand their van back to its original size right beneath the vehicle of one of their pursuers.
Daddy, where is my Pez dispenser?
In an amusing way to stop their bike-riding pursuers at the end of the trailer, the Wasp throws out a Hello Kitty Pez dispenser from the back of the van before enlarging it to the size of a lamppost. That probably belonged to Cassie, daughter of our lead superhero.
The Wasp and her upgrades
Let it be clear that Ant-Man and the Wasp have their own different skills and powers–minus the shrinking part. The female superhero has access to the same technology but her suit comes with a few additional upgrades. This includes a nifty pair of wings for flight and cool blasters.
The first real look at the Quantum realm
Remember the subatomic dimension from the first movie where the original Wasp was thought to have been lost? We will be heading there in the sequel to rescue her. The trailer also showcases a vessel, specially crafted for that mission through the Quantum sphere.
The Ghost in the darkness
The agenda of the masked and hooded antagonist is still left undetermined, but the trailer did give a glimpse of how she came to be.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will open in theaters on July 6, 2018. If you believe there is more to be added in the trailer breakdown, go ahead and comment below.
