Spider-Man, the latest animated series, has been confirmed by Marvel to be receiving a second season this year on Disney XD after all. The news should comfort fans of the favorite wall-crawling superhero because of recent rumors that suggested the show was being canned.
The second season will begin from where the first season left off and follow through the conflicts that pitted Spider-Man against the deadly alliance of Doc Ock, Hobgoblin, and the Sinister Five.
The return of the latest animated series in the franchise will also see Peter Parker trying to balance new responsibilities with his heroic duties. This includes working at The Daily Bugle, his local newspaper outlet, and spinning webs to catch his dear friends when the villains attempt to wreak havoc in the city.
“We’re proud of our partnership with Marvel Animation and look forward to premiering more adventure storytelling, through the lens of some of the world’s most prominent superheroes, for years to come,” Marc Buhaj, senior vice president of programming for Disney XD, said in a press release.
It was previously reported that the animation team at Marvel was going to be hit with layoffs and hence, the show (as well as other animated series on the network) would cease once the first season ended. Thankfully, such an event has not taken place.
In addition to Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy will be returning with a third season that continues from the Mission Breakout storyline. Avengers Assemble will also be gracing the network with a fifth season that follows Black Panther after the events of the Secret Wars storyline.
For the time being, fans have been assured of at least three superhero animated series from Marvel this year. The exact premier date and other related information should be released by Disney XD soon.
