2017 was a good year for Nintendo Switch as the console saw a lot of third-party titles releasing for it and now Nintendo has revealed the biggest digital downloads on Switch for 2017 and Stardew Valley is the most downloaded game globally for Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo revealed two charts for the most downloaded games on Nintendo Switch. One lists the most downloaded games globally which Stardew Valley has dominated and the second chart lists the most downloaded games in its home market, Japan.

Stardew Valley lead the global chart followed by Minecraft and Sonic Mania. What is interesting about the global chart, the rest of the list is dominated by indie titles such as Shovel Knights and Rocket League.

As for Switch’s home market, it is dominated by Minecraft as the most downloaded game in Japan for Nintendo Switch followed by Snipperclips and Senran Kagura: Sinobirifure. However, Nintendo didn’t reveal any specific sales numbers for all these games.

  • Stardvew Valley (Chucklefish)
  • Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition (Mojang)
  • Sonic Mania (Sega)
  • Rocket League (Psyonix)
  • Snipperclips (Nintendo)
  • Overcooked (Team17)

Stardew Valley is a farming simulator RPG developed by ConcernedApe and published by Chucklefish Games. The game is heavily inspired by the Harvest Moon video game series. Creator Eric Barone developed the game on his own over the course of four years.

The game became widely popular among PC community and is one of the highest selling games on Steam as the game has sold over 1 million units.

Speaking of sales, Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in The US for the month of December. According to the report, the console managed to sell 1.5 million units in December alone probably due to the holiday season and Black Friday sale.

Speaking of games for Nintendo Switch a Pokemon RPG for Switch might be coming in 2018. Recently Nintendo Europe surveyed its fans asking them what game they plan to buy in next 12 months.

The survey in question had multiple options including Bayonetta 3 and Pokemon RPG indicating that a Pokemon game might be coming to Switch by the end of 2018.

Furthermore, another interesting thing from the survey is the inclusion of an option for Bayonetta 3 which is rumored to release in Summer 2018 and this survey gives us another hint that Nintendo is planning to release Bayonetta 3 for Switch this year.
