The upcoming new Tomb Raider movie has received another action-packed trailer that emphasizes the survival instincts of a young and adventurous Lara Croft. Some of the featured scenes also prove earlier suggestions that director Roar Uthaug was greatly inspired by the 2013 reboot game from Crystal Dynamics. Those who have played through the tenth installment in the franchise will have no problems pointing out the exact moments.
This will be an origin story and will not be continuing from where the two previous movies, starring Angelina Jolie as the beautiful archaeologist, left off. Lara Croft, at the age of just 21 years old, will set out to solve the disappearance of her father. However, the perilous journey will lead her to a remote island in the middle of nowhere where her survival and puzzle-solving skills will be put to the test.
“Leaving everything she knows behind, Lara goes in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan,” the official blurb reads. “If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.”
The new Tomb Raider movie is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on March 16 and will star Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. The actress has previously stated that she intends to set herself apart from the Lara Croft portrayal of both the games and movies. The fan-base, though, is a bit iffy on the subject and is split between whether Vikander was the right cast for the job or not.
The other appearances in the movie will be made by Dominic West as Lord Richard Croft, Walton Goggins as Father Mathias Vogel, and Daniel Wu as Lu Ren.
