It was reported this week that Tom Holland would be appearing as Spider-Man in the upcoming independent Venom movie. Before fans could start speculating on how the two mirrored characters have been penned in the script, another report has surfaced to clarify the earlier claims.
According to Jon Schnepp from Collider, Tom Holland has been confirmed to be part of the Venom storyline. However, the actor will be appearing as Peter Parker and not as the web-slinging superhero.
“Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker,” Schnepp said. “I’m not saying that Spider-Man is in the film. When I say that ‘Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is in the film,’ I’m saying ‘Peter Parker is in the film.’ This is a cameo.”
Venom was previously tagged by fans to hit the silver screen with Spider-Man: Homecoming. The confirmation of the symbiote going solo has only brought up more questions regarding how closely the movie will tie to either Sony Pictures or the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Venom movie will hit theaters worldwide on October 5 this year. We should be getting more details in the coming months. For now, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is in, but Spider-Man is out. Those who were expecting to see a grand showdown between the two wall-crawlers will surely be disappointed.
