Far Cry games offer players freedom in terms of playstyle like players can do the mission the way they want either gun blazing or stealth, however, according to Ubisoft, stealth in Far Cry games has never as good as Far Cry 5 stealth mechanic.
Speaking with PCPowerplay, lead programmer Raphael Parent talked about different aspects of Far Cry 5 including the Far Cry 5 stealth mechanic and how important it is in the game.
According to Raphael, stealth has been a very important part of Far Cry games but, it has not been as elaborate or good as Far Cry 5 stealth mechanic, as NPCs have a lot of states that players need to keep in mind while infiltrating.
We added a lot of new states to the NPCs to make them more interesting in combat, they now have a chance to go into a downed state when shot, which gives their partners a chance to bring them back to life. They can also have their morale broken and decide to make a run for it! Stealth is a very important part of Far Cry and I personally think that it’s never been as good as it is now in Far Cry 5.
Furthermore, he also said that Far Cry 5 is not a first-person shooter but the game is a first-person adventure game that happens to feature shooting.
“To me it’s a first-person adventure that involves shooting. You talk to people, gather intel, do some fishing, discover hidden treasures, make new friends, hunt some animals, then hunt some bad guys, too! Fly over wide-open spaces in your hydroplane. It’s important to us that the player has fun in this vast world and has the freedom to do whatever they want to do.”
Furthermore, the game will not feature local co-op and players will only be able to play the game through online co-op. No reason behind this decision was revealed hopefully Ubisoft might include local co-op in future.
Also, Ubisoft has revealed that the fishing mini-game already became a “fan-favorite”. According to narrative director Jean-Sebastien Decant, fishing side-activity in Far Cry 5 has already become a “fan-favorite” as gamers have liked it very much when it was showcased during various events.
Far Cry 5 is a first-person action shooter in development at Ubisoft for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 and is scheduled to launch on March 27, 2018.
