Ubisoft: Far Cry 5 Is A First-Person Adventure Game That Happens To Feature Shooting
Far Cry franchise has always been seen as a first-person action shooter, at least by me, however, with Far Cry 5 Ubisoft has changed it a bit as the studio itself sees the game as a first-person adventure game which also happens to feature shooting.
Speaking with PCPowerplay, lead programmer Raphael Parent talked about Far Cry 5. According to Raphael, Far Cry 5 is not a first-person shooting game but a first-person action game that happens to feature shooting.
Far Cry has always been so much more than a shooter. To me it’s a first-person adventure that involves shooting. You talk to people, gather intel, do some fishing, discover hidden treasures, make new friends, hunt some animals, then hunt some bad guys, too! Fly over wide-open spaces in your hydroplane. It’s important to us that the player has fun in this vast world and has the freedom to do whatever they want to do.
In the same interview, Raphael also talked about the fishing mini-game in the game. According to him, this mini-game features some deep mechanics ad added that the fishing designer will be “VERY happy” if players spend a lot of time fishing.
“Our fishing system is really deep. Different locations have different types of fish. And different types of fish are more easily caught using certain lures. And we also have different types of fishing rods that make fishing easier. If people spend more time fishing than shooting, then our fishing designer will be VERY happy”.
Speaking of the fishing mini-game in Far Cry 5, while the game has not released yet but according to Ubisoft, the fishing mini-game already became a “fan-favorite”.
According to narrative director Jean-Sebastien Decant, fishing side-activity in Far Cry 5 has already become a “fan-favorite” as gamers have liked it very much when it was showcased during various events.
Far Cry games have featured co-op play since Far Cry 3 and while the upcoming title will feature co-op but it will not be local co-op but online co-op. No reason behind this decision was revealed hopefully Ubisoft might include local co-op in future.
Far Cry 5 is a first-person action shooter in development at Ubisoft for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 and is scheduled to launch on March 27, 2018.
