The opening cinematic for the upcoming game Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor: Martyr has finally been revealed by the game’s developer, Neocore Games. The game, which is currently in early access, also has revealed the first chapter of the campaign, a new class to play, and a new terrain setting for the game.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor: Martyr takes place on a battleship of the same name, which has spontaneously appeared in realspace after apparently being lost in the Warp (an alternate dimension that the setting relies on for space travel) for centuries. Your Inquisitor, which can be a variety of classes, has been assigned to investigate a distress signal coming from within.
These classes include the Primaris Psyker (a sort of wizard equivalent with enormously powerful psychic abilities), Crusader (the frontline class that is most combat-oriented), and the Assassin, which fills the role of the rogue in any other sort of RPG. Players can also form multiplayer Cabals in order to cover one another’s weaknesses as they complete missions together.
The first chapter of the game will mainly function as a tutorial, allowing players to get familiar with the game and understand its concepts. It will likely also begin some plot development, at least enough to get players interested in what might be happening in the game.
There’s no set release date for when Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor: Martyr will actually come out, but with what gameplay we’ve seen, and considering how the introductory cutscene looks, it will at least be visually spectacular. However, with the game in Early Access there are likely still a lot of improvements to make, even if it’s only been that way for around five months.
While the game is supposed to be released early this year, hopefully it will be solid enough to get a good reception both from casual gamers and Warhammer fans.
