Final Fantasy XIV: StormBlood

The expansion increases the level cap of the game from 60 to 70 and adds a new campaign which takes around 50 hours to complete. You heard it right! 50 hours. It also tries to simplify the game for newer players with options for them to pick up the game faster. It also adds a new look to Eorzea making it the whole package when it comes to expansions.

Bioshock 2: Minerva’s Den
Available on: PC, Xbox 360, PS3
This expansion is critically acclaimed for its amazing story. You get to see the rapture from another angle and have access to many new weapons. The expansion was so good that the developers went ahead and formed their own development studio known as Fullbright, making games like Tacoma in the process.

Bioshock 2: Minerva’s Den

Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker
Available on: PC, Xbox 360, PS3
Even though this adventure only lasted for a mere 3 hours, it was integral to the storyline as it reunited you with Liara T’Soni. The execution of the 3-hour campaign was perfect in terms of voice acting, action and aesthetics.

Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker

World of Warcraft: Legion
Available on: PC
Each expansion of the game has been exceptional but Legion stands out as the undisputed king of all! Not only did you have an entirely new continent to explore but also there was a plethora of new gear for you to locate and keep. The PvP was also very good and combined with the missions, made this expansion perfect.

World of Warcraft: Legion

Fallout 4: Nuka World

Nuka World allowed you to show your dark side. Not only could you tackle the surprisingly difficult area of Nuka World but also you could join different raiders and there were consequences for your every action.

Dying Light: The Following

Expansions done right! Dying Light kept on trying to perfect their already amazing mix of survival horror and platformer until the Following, at which point they achieved their task. There is also a mystery for players to solve which introduces a new genre into a game which already has so many genres intertwined.

Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors
Available on: PC
I remember playing this expansion for the first time and being amazed by it. It was almost as if I was playing a new game due to the fact that you could control 3 massive empires of the world. There were four new campaigns along with multiple new maps and five new civilizations.

Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors

Dark Souls 2: The Lost Crowns
Available on: PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4
Do we really need to mention what made this expansion pack so awesome? It made a game which was already almost impossible to beat even harder. The new adventures were all set in unique areas and had armor unique to that adventure. The bosses were almost impossible to beat and the puzzles required you to watch a couple of episodes of Rick and Morty before you attempted them.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen
Available on: PC, Xbox One, PS4
These guys know how to do expansions right. There are new units, better ways of building your alliances and more ways to progress than ever before. The new campaign is paced much better and does not bore you to death like it did prior to the expansion. This expansion really nailed down the science of providing interesting content after release.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pack

Perhaps the best game of 2017 also has one of the best expansions of 2017. This game gives you a linear quest which changes the story of the game.
