State of Decay 2 Apparently Close To Release, Gets An ESRB Rating

State of Decay 2, a zombie survival title by Undead Labs, is apparently close to being released after years of waiting. The game has recently been rated by the ESRB, something that would normally only be done when the game was close to completion, though we don’t know the specific release date.

The community manager of Undead Studios, however, has said on Reddit that it’s possible that the game will be releasing in the spring of this year, meaning we only have a few more months to wait. However, that’s just a release window, not a fully fledged release date.

State of Decay 2 is the sequel to the original State of Decay, a 2013 zombie survival game where players took on the role of a survivor in the fictional Trumbull Valley, which has been overrun by the undead while the protagonist was out on a hunting trip in the mountains. While players gathered supplies and survivors to create a safe place, eventually the group had to leave after the valley’s water supply was poisoned.

The new game will, of course, be outside of Trumbull Valley, though likely still in some other open-world location that you’ve come to in the gap between the last game and this one. You’ll likely do more of the same stuff, though hopefully Undead Labs has made it so the similarities between this game and the last one aren’t entirely similar.

According to the ESRB rating for State of Decay 2, the game involves using baseball bats, cleavers, machetes, grenades, and machine guns to kill zombies, causing gore to spray everywhere as they crush heads, blow zombies to pieces, and more. Players can also decide to “euthanize” infected survivors by shooting them. An infirmary with various drugs can also be built to help keep people healthy.

Whenever State of Decay 2 ends up releasing, hopefully it’ll be just as good as the original game was. State of Decay 2 is coming out for the Xbox One and PC.
