HTC Vive Pro and Vive Wireless Adapter Announced, Features Higher Resolution Screen, Built-in Headphones
HTC announced an improved, more premium version of their popular virtual reality headset the HTC Vive, the HTC Vive Pro at CES 2018 along with a new wireless adapter for their Vive headsets allowing users to ditch the mess of cables that are normally associated with VR gaming.
The new headset will be called the HTC Vive Pro and will feature a sharper, higher resolution screen along with built-in high-performance headphones to maximize your audio-visual experience when VR gaming as compared to the vanilla HTC Vive.
The new dual screens in the HTC Vive Pro will be OLED allowing deeper, richer colors and will have a crisp 2880 x 1660 (combined) resolution compared with the lower 2160 x 1200 (combined) resolution featured in the original HTC Vive.
The Vive Pro built-in headphones will also provide great sound quality and fidelity as they have high-res audio certification and also have a powerful built-in amplifier. Other marked improvements include an optimized center of gravity noise-canceling dual microphones and front-facing cameras to be potentially used by any developers for future VR gaming titles.
HTC has also redesigned the headset to be more ergonomic and comfortable for long usage with adjustable straps, an increased point of weight support and a notable increase in the face gasket surface area for lowered stress when in use.
Although no details have been released on the pricing and release of either the VIVE pro, the HTC Wireless Adaptor is expected to release in the third quarter of 2018. Featuring Intel’s Wigig technology and an impressive 60 GHz band, it aims to mitigate the cumbersome issue of wiring involved with VR headsets.
The adapter will need to be charged and is expected to provide around two hours of charge but no details on running time have been yet confirmed by HTC.
