Borderlands 3 news is very limited at the moment and whatever we have is scattered at different places around the internet. However, the following article will combine all the details under one digital roof for you.
Borderlands 3 is yet to be officially confirmed but there is so much suggestive evidence that points to the inevitable. When is the game releasing, what about multiplayer, and what returning characters we’ll see is unknown. But we can be pretty sure that right now the title is being developed by Gearbox.
Borderlands 3 is taking plenty of Gearbox’s time and it may have even affected Battleborn, which to be honest wasn’t half bad. According to Randy Pitchford, they want to make the next Borderlands a really big and worthy step forward for the franchise.
So of course, doing something ambitious takes time; just ask Microsoft.
Update: There is still little that we know about Borderlands 3 but a recent press release from Take-Two has hinted at a possible 2019 release window. According to Take-Two, one of their biggest video game franchises from 2K is releasing in 2019, a game that would really excite the community. While they didn’t blatantly state which game it is, it is safe to say that it is Borderlands 3.
With the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 scheduled for later this year and GTA 6 still a long way off, 2019 seems to be the year of the Borderlands.
Borderlands 3 News
Well, right now, like I said there isn’t much available in terms of Borderlands 3 news. However, what we have seen from a recent tech demo it is clear that Borderlands 3 sees the return of its unique graphics and artwork. The game is being developed using Unreal Engine 4 so expect detailed environments, high-quality character models, and textures. Developing the game using a new engine makes things more complex but it will also ensure that the developers will innovate and have new tools, features at their disposal.
We also know that Tiny Tina is making a return along with other old Borderlands 3 characters. Pitchford hinted her return by saying that he is excited to see where her story goes after growing up several years.
Also, a recent Tweet from Randy Pitchford which indicated that he is playing a “psycho” in the game. As you may know, psychos are an enemy type in Borderlands 3. The man went silent on Twitter and other social media channels for now but if you are looking for some hints and information regarding the new Borderlands, stay-tuned to his Twitter account.
One last thing, we also know that the game will be massive size compared to Borderlands, and Borderlands 2. They recently hired a writer with a knack for “comedy writing.” The information came from a job posting. That’s as far as Borderlands 3 news can go right now but more will be shared in the near future. The game is expected to hit Xbox One, PS4, and PC as well. We are hoping to see a Nintendo Switch version too.
Borderlands 3 Story
Borderlands 3 story will become clearer when we get to see a reveal trailer. But we do know about the return of Tiny Tina. She will be older than the last time we saw her and it seems she will have a much bigger role to play this time around.
Moreover, most of the Borderlands games have been set on Pandora so the third game isn’t expected to change that, or is it? The Prequal was set on Pandora’s habitable moon, Elpis. And since they are shifting to Unreal Engine 4 and allows unique physics mechanics for different environments, at GDC last year someone asked how the setting for the new game will be. Randy Pitchford answered by saying “that there might be different physics and the sun and the moons might be in different positions than what we’re used to on Pandora.”
This indicates that the game might not be set on Pandora but could return to Elpis. It is mere speculation but it seems to highly likely that Gearbox would want to mix things up a bit. Another possibility is that we may be able to explore both Pandora and Elpis. Free travel between two locations would be an amazing feature to have. We may also be able to explore planet Promethea, the same place where the alien tech was discovered by Atlas.
Battleborn’s Atikus and Thrall rebellion DLC featured a graffiti on the wall, a vault logo with “Promethea” on it. Apart from this, there isn’t much to go on for now. However, expect more details to be shared around E3 and PAX this year.
Borderlands 3 Release Date
Well, this is a question that needs to be answered as soon as possible. Fans are eager to know when will they be able to play the game. First, we need to wait for an official announcement. Borderlands 3 release date isn’t expected to be shared alongside its reveal trailer, most devs don’t use this approach. Instead, expect to see a release window.
And interestingly, we may already have that; a recent investor’s meeting pointed to an October 2018 to September 2019 release frame. Borderlands 3 release date should be set for sometime next year. Judging by the hints dropped all around the internet by Gearbox, the game is expected to be announced this year.
Gearbox likes to make appearances at PAX and GDC so this is where we may get the reveal trailer. But again, Borderlands 3 release date is unlikely to be announced alongside its announcement. The original Borderlands released in October while the second game released in September.
So September 2019 is the most likely candidate while an announcement should be set for later this year.
Borderlands 3 Trailer
The game hasn’t been announced yet so there is no Borderlands 3 trailer for the time being. However, what we do have is a tech demo that showed what the next Borderlands game could turn out to be. We saw new rendering techniques, shadow effects, and much more.
Back at GDC 2017, Randy Pitchford took to stage and gave an extensive presentation about their Unreal Engine 4 adoption. Borderlands gameplay nor its trailer were shown at the event. However, the art style and asset production process were detailed.
For now, this is all there is to know about Borderlands 3. More Borderlands 3 news will come in the near future so make sure you check back with us later.
And finally, take to the comments and let us know what features would you like to see in Borderlands 3.
Borderlands 3 Easter Eggs Dropping
(Update 2 ): An Easter egg related Borderlands 3 was hidden inside Battleborn‘s Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion DLC. There is a graffiti inside the DLC that says “Promethea,” which is a planet in Borderlands. This indicates that this could be the setting for Borderlands 3.
