The recent speculation about Mad Catz returning with full force, after being forced to declare bankruptcy last year, was indeed accurate.
According to a press release shared on the official website just now, the “legendary gaming hardware brand” is back in business under new leadership and with a newfound focus on quality and experience.
“We couldn’t be more excited than to begin 2018 by announcing the return of Mad Catz to the global gaming arena,” Selena Chang, director of sales and operations stated. “Through listening to gamers worldwide, we plan to once again forge a path of innovation in the gaming hardware community, and we’re already working on delivering products which we believe will enhance gamers’ abilities.”
Mad Catz will commemorate its return by previewing a range of new gaming peripherals at Consumers Electronics Show (CES 2018) next week. This includes the R.A.T. AIR wireless gaming mouse, S.T.R.I.K.E. 4 mechanical gaming keyboard, F.R.E.Q. 4 gaming headset, and G.L.I.D.E. Chameleon gaming surface. Unfortunately, the lineup does not feature any new arcade sticks that the company was renowned for previously.
Mad Catz formed a special committee in 2016 to “explore and evaluate strategic alternatives” for bettering its financials. Various options were considered such as taking further loans from the bank and selling itself to a third-party company. However, none were marked as viable by its financial advisers. This led to the company finally filing for bankruptcy at the end of the first quarter last year.
