The Playstation 2 is considered to be the best-selling console of all time. The nostalgia that is tied to the console may never be replicated by any other console, except maybe the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo has always had its stronghold in Japan, with the most legendary titles being adopted into various other forms of entertainment. As such, Nintendo consoles usually sell much better in the land of the rising sun than they do across the Atlantic and in the other parts of the world.
Nintendo Switch is perhaps the best modern Nintendo console and blends portable gaming with the mainstream console market. As such, it is no surprise that the sales of the Nintendo Switch in Japan have surpassed the sales of the Playstation 2 within the first year of its release.
This poses a lot of questions, such as whether or not the Switch can surpass the sales of the Sony legend. Probably not, but there is a fairly good chance that its sales in Japan do end up being more than that of the PlayStation 2, after all, this is the place where the birth of Pokemon happened. It was just last year when Nintendo 3DS surpassed PS2’s lifetime sales in Japan.
