The Last Of Us Part 2 Creative Director Talks About The Intensity and Expectations
The Last of Us Part 2 is probably one of the most anticipated games of 2018. Even though we still know nothing about its gameplay or its release date, the cinematic footage we saw at Paris Games Week has us wanting more. Neil Druckmann, Creative Director of The Last of Us Part 2 talked about that bit in a recent interview with Insomniac Games and gave some context to how it’s like to be working on a game of this caliber.
The 6 minute long cinematic we had the chance to see at Paris Games Week is one of many in The Last of Us 2 that Druckmann says are the most polished parts. He explained:
“This and some other parts are like the most polished parts of the game because we knew we were going to show them, and now it’s like there’s a daunting task ahead of us.”
Creating a cinematic with such intensity is no easy task especially when you have to show one prior to the game’s release. According to Druckmann, the team looks after every tiny detail when it comes to show something to the public.
However, an even harder part is to deliver the feeling that the game will give you in a five-minute video, to which he explained:
“We’ve got this slither of five minutes, now how do you make that into tens of hours of experience to look and feel that visceral, that kind of intensity? People don’t see that the rest of it – at different stages – is a broken mess.”
Bringing a cinematic of such volume to the public creates expectations that the developer team has to meet. However, Naughty Dog has proven that they can overcome such a problem and create great story-driven video games that will stay classic throughout the time.
There’s still no final release date for The Last of Us Part 2, only that it will be released sometime in 2018. Even if it’s released later next year though we’re sure that it will be worth the while.
